Our modern technology has allowed us to transform a number of professions and hobbies, with one such example being art. It’s now easier than ever to become a digital artist, with a large variety of tools available that a potential artist can employ in order to find an income.
Earning the title of a professional artist can take years of hard work as well as learning several different skills. But with the right technology on hand, accumulated knowledge, and plenty of drive, it’s now a career choice that can offer great pay as well as the chance to do something creative.
Choosing The Type Of Art
Generally, there are two main kinds of digital art: vector and raster. They use different software and use cases, and it ultimately depends on the kind of art that the artist is hoping to make.
Vector: Vector files work similarly to a set of instructions, where a lot of lines and curves are saved, and the image is reproduced using these instructions. This is why it’s possible to zoom in and preserve much of the quality. This is a common type used by designers of all shapes and sizes, such as those that create logos, or anything that needs a lot of detail. It’s not as easy to learn as raster, and generally not quite as intuitive, but it can provide plenty of detail.
Rastor: A raster file, on the other hand, makes use of a bitmap image that has a series of pixels that are plotted. This is the format that many common image and files types make use of, such as PNG, GIFs, and JPEG.
While raster files are easier to learn and work with than vector, they are much more difficult to edit properly without having to remove sections of image. It also means that the images aren’t as high a quality, especially when zoomed up.
Getting The Right Hardware
There are a few types of hardware that can support digital art, but perhaps the best are dedicated drawing tablets. These are designed to be able to produce and manipulate art, while also offering a range of various software-based tools for the artist to use. These tablets also usually come with some kind of e-pen, allowing the artist to do their work directly on the surface of the tablet, often in exquisite detail.
Many people believe that Apple’s line-up of tablets are great for drawing, while others prefer to make use of devices like the Samsung Note. For the most part, the vast majority of tablet devices can be used to creating art at various level of detail, while also giving the user the ability to read emails, watch videos or play real money gambling in Canada.
Creating a Portfolio
Like any line of work, it’s important to have a portfolio available that can give a potential employer or client an idea what the kind of work they can expect. Portfolios need to be professional, simple, easy-to-read, but also large enough that there’s a real variety of work on display.
Creating a portfolio can take time – sometimes years – but at the end of the day it’s the best way for others to see the work.
